DECTalk Synthesizers

The DECtalk family is manufactured by Digital Equipment Corporation. They are known for a smooth sound and large amount of pitch contour. These models are basic synthesizers only. There are no other special functions.

The DECTalk voice synthesizers are very popular with people who prefer heavy pitch contours and speech patterns. The DECTalk voice quality is considered to have human-like tones. It is well suited for continuous reading of large amounts of text. Several voice styles can be chosen as "Perfect Paul", "Hugh Harry", "Kit the kid" and others. Although DECTalk voices are relatively sluggish, and lack responsive control, the Artic Access Program has achieved a high degree of performance as compared to other access programs.
